09.03.10: On March 9, two graduate students flew to Chile to begin installing 100 QCN sensors in the region affected by the recent M8.8 earthquake. Our partners at the University of Concepcion are coordinating the installation of sensors. Volunteers from the University of Concepcion and University of Santiago will assist with installing sensors in cities throughout the region. We hope to record many of the aftershocks that are still occurring in the area to better understand the distribution of aftershocks and to study the properties of earthquakes. We will include updates on their progress and the data that are recorded in the coming weeks. If you are in Chile and would like to participate in the Quake-Catcher Network Rapid Aftershock Mobilization Project (QCN-RAMP) please fill out the form on this link.

09.03.10: On February 27, 2010 a M8.8 earthquake struck Chile just northwest of the major city of Concepcion. A QCN partner at the University of Concepcion was testing a JoyWarrior USB sensor with the goal of introducing QCN to the region in the future. The sensor caught the M8.8 mainshock and a number of aftershocks that followed. The computer was attached to a backup power supply that kept the computer running for one hour after the earthquake knocked out power to most of the city. Unfortunately, at the time of the earthquake the sensor was not connected to the floor, but most of the earthquake record looks surprisingly good. The very high accelerations approximately 15 seconds into the record may be the sensor falling off of the box it was sitting on. Click here to view the QCN output.

09.03.10: Docking@Home is slowly back to normal. Due to storage sortage we will distribute a slightly lower amout of workunits but all the daemons are back

09.03.10: Less than one week till it's the end for some prime wannabe's. A 24 hour (15-16 March) Challenge is being offered on PrimeGrid's Prime Sierpinski Project/Seventeen or Bust (Sieve) application. Come join us as we quicken the demise for some unlucky k/n pairs.Application builds are available for MacIntel, Linux, and Windows â¿¿ with a 64 bit advantage. For more information, please see this forum post.

09.03.10:
The latest radio pulsar re-discoveries are available here.
Our count is now at 59 detections of 40 different known radio pulsars. The latest improvements of the search workflow increased the
average processing rate to about 200% of the Arecibo data taking rate.
This means we're now able to process the available backlog of data - thanks to our volunteers!

09.03.10: During this weekend the server will be taken down for O/S upgrade.
The old distro (Debian 4) will be replaced by Debian 5 amd64, since the older version has a limited support and probably slows down the hardware a bit.
It's hard to estimate how long the upgrade process will take, but I'd say that 8-12 hours minimum, because I have to do a complete backup first, so in the worst case I'll be able to rollback everything to the previous state.

08.03.10: The site's downtime was caused by hardware issues again during this weekend. We are sorry for the inconvenience!

07.03.10: Docking@Home will interrupt the distribution of new workunits until the storage pressure is released. This means that tomorrow (March 08), or the day after tomorrow at most (March 09) we will resume with the normal distribution activity. Thank you for your patience!!

07.03.10: We temporarily suspended the generation of new jobs while investigating some issues with the charmm script. Stay tuned ..

07.03.10: Tomorrow D@H will start crossdocking, it is a critical change but we expect we will move smoothly. Please be patient in the event of possible crashes

07.03.10:
Check out a Youtube video about making a multi-GPU desktop supercomputer.
